On Mon June 19 @ approx 10:30 hrs. Orange County (CA) Sheriffs Department Motorcycle Deputy Steve Parsons was struck by a 77 year old driver who ran a red light. Deputy Parsons was on duty and in uniform. Witness accounts state the light was green for the Deputy for a significant amount of time when the other driver entered the intersection. He was hit at full traveling speed with no apparent braking manuever by the other driver.
Deputy Parsons was thrown from his motorcycle as much as 60 feet according to witness accounts. He sustained a very critical head trauma, as well as a broken leg and clavicle. Deputy Parsons remains in a coma and to assist in healing his brain injury, he will be medically kept in that state for some time.
I will keep the forums updated.
A fund has been started in his name by the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriifs to assist the family during what looks to be a very long process.

I'm not anti old as I'm getting there faster than ever but I am concerned about their driving ability. Two weeks ago a good friend of mine that I referee soccer with had a 78 year old lady suddenly pull over in front of him on the interstate trying to make a u-turn in the median after missing an exit. At least that's all the police could come up with as she died after Bob struck her in the rear and she ended up in front of an RV coming the opposite way. Although my friend is fine his wife had some minor injuries and the trauma Bob is going through, even though it wasnt' his fault, is pretty severe.

My best wishes for the officer's family and here's to a speedy and complete recovery....

What Bill didn't mention was that Deputy Parsons was also recently named Orange County Deputy of the Year.

Let's remember to keep Deputy Parsons and his family in our hearts and prayers.

These forums are here to support the Tactical and Law Enforcment community. I think that means more than just logging on to chat, it means actually doing something when a valued member of our community is in desperate need.

MD Labs/Mad Dog Knives is stepping up to the plate to do what we can to demonstrate that we care, to show Officer Parsons' family that the people here at Tactical Forums care.

I have spoke with Kevin and he is going to make a custom 7"-10" knife for the purpose of raising a donation to give to the Parson Family from ALL of us here at Tactical Forums. This will be an entirely new knife design numbered #001 (for those of you who like a numbered knife). He said he will work on it as soon as he gets back from Africa. We will post pictures of it as soon as possible, but please don't wait until then to buy your tickets.
Why not plan to set aside $5.00 a week to buy a ticket? It's a small amount that would really add up over the next 3 months.

We will raffle the knife off and donate ALL of the proceeds of that raffle to the Parson Family. I will keep you posted as to the accumulation of the proceeds.

The numbered tickets will sell for $5.00 each. The raffle ticket sale will continue until October 1, 2000. I would like to know if anyone out there would like to donate their time to handle the ticket distribution? MDL will supply the tickets.

Please, let us all show our support for Officer Parsons and his family. Buy several tickets if you can, and be sure to let everyone you know about this fund raiser.

As we travel through life, sometimes one can become a bit jaded at the way things somtimes turn out. There is no good reason why bad things happen to good people. Without a doubt in my mind Steve was one of the good ones. Yes, the unthinkable has happened.
After an emotional roller coaster ride for us, and 24 hour hospital vigils, the injury to Steve's brain was simply too much. His condition seemed to undergo an endless variation from stable to very grave. In the end, the multiple surgeries to ease the pressures on his brain did not work, and on Friday night we tried the hail mary pass in the form of one final but very unpredictable medicine to save him. Unfortunately, it did not work. Eveyone said their goodbyes and he slipped away quietly on Saturday night with his wife by his side.
I am deeply touched at the outpouring of support that has come from the community. every one was rooting for us and for a time, we thought he would make it.
Kevin and Teryl have shown the type of people they are, and I will make sure everyone in the family knows the true scope of thier generosity. Anyone who ever had issue with Mad Dog simply does not understand him, as he and every member of his family have the most genuine and kind souls I have ever seen. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Steve is survived by his wife and two young children ages 6 and 3. He is also survived by his Mother, Father and Sister.

There is a fund that has been started by the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs to assist Steve's family in this difficult time.
Contributions may be made to Deputy Steve Parsons, in care of the
Association of Orange County Duty Sheriffs, 1314 West Fifth Street,
Santa Ana, CA 92703.

Thank you for letting us know.
I am so deeply sorry to hear this news. My heart goes out to his wife and children, I know the sorrow and the loss they are feeling right now.

This raffle is the most important thing these forums have ever done.
Please help us to help them.

I'm saddened by the news, and I'm sure I join many others in wishing this wasn't so, though it sounds like the family is blessed to have the strength and support of many...

I'd like to help by purchasing raffle tickets. Could you let us know who we should make the out to?

I am not surprised at all. You may wonder what I am talking about? Already, many kind words of encouragement and contributions to the raffle are coming in. This is what I have come to expect of the fine people on these forums. On behalf of myself and the Parsons family, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to those who have taken a moment of their life to help those in need.
