I've heard that the adidas shoes are "good", although it might just be a way of saying they're just like most of "them" .I don't like Magnum boots: they're pretty soft, not much support for your ankle etc. Personally I prefer HAIX -shoes (German made quality). At the moment I have HAIX Special Forces boots with which I'm very pleased. They're much tougher than the Magnums I've tried, more durable (IMHO). I'm thinking about trying HAIX Trekkers..well take a look yourself: http://www.haix.de/ I'd choose HAIX shoes "made for professionals" instead of some adidas-made boots --personal experience-- which I haven't tried, so I don't really know about them. Maybe Adidas makes good boots. Please tell me if you find out! Hope this helps! Regards, ------------------ Chiburi Fac est ab hoste doceri 'It's allowed to learn from the enemy' IP: Logged |

Cheers for the speedy reply chiburi, the haix boots definatly look like they can take a few knocks i'll keep them in mind. im looking for above average traction, and i heard (from adidas) that the adidas tacticals offer excellent cornering, but i also heard they wear out pretty quick. Thanks again.WGMATATS IP: Logged |

KOAD, Do a search, there has been a fairly comprehensive Subject Matter covered already.FWIW, the Addidas are the MOST comfortable, but there is a trade off w/ their durability. They get worn real fast in a Urban Environment due to softness of "Nubbings" on sole. FWIW, they are the easeist to track if that's a concern. Danner Acadia, RECON and Olympic models are excellent for durability and comfort as well. ------------------ "Our own life is the instrument with which we experiment with truth." I have the Adidas and I have worn a lot of boots in my day. Danner Acadia, Matterhorn, Magnum, GI Jungle, etc etc. Of all of them the best boots I have ever owned are my Danner Trooper II's. The Adidas hurt my feet and across the top of my foot where the laces dig in. (They are still pretty new) The tongue also dips pretty low so if you operate in a rainy neighborhood, you feet WILL get wet. They do have good traction and feel pretty cushy. The danner Trooper II's fit like a glove, they are waterproof, they are fairly light, they have great soles for traction adn they don't squeek when wet. I will never ever buy anything else. Give Orginial SWAT boots a try, I think you can find them on line at DSA's web site. It is very comfortable and also durable. best of all, the price is right.IP: Logged |

GSG-9s are awsome, but they do wear out pretty fast. Adidas can't/won't re-sole them; so, at around $200/pr, you may want to think about this investment. I used them for hiking and I found that they had a tendency to let little rocks and dirt in around the tongue. They also do let in quite a bit of rain. They make an excellent pair of mountain biking boots, though. They have traction that grips the lugged pedals like crazy. They don't breathe very well. I'm usually quite sewaty at the end of the day. All this aside, I would definately buy another pair. You can't beat the all around comfort.I like Magnums, too. I'm on my 5th pair of them ------------------ A mistake on your part dosen't constitute an emergency on my part. IP: Logged |

I suppose a boot is a very personal item to choose, as it needs to fit your foot and nobody elses just right. That having been said, though I don't go around doing boot interviews, I have yet to meet someone who owned Danner boots and had any complaints. They seem to be very well-made and durable as well as comfortable.

I have both Danner Acadias and Magnums. Both are great boots, but I wear my Danners at work exclusively now. They are very comfortable even during long shifts. I have not worn them for that long, but they can be resoled (a plus for 200 dollar boots). The Magnums I have are now just for hiking, hunting, or training. Still good boots, but I just like the Danners better (plus, they are about 80 bucks cheaper). Alot of guys at work also wear Rockys, but I dont have any experience with them. IP: Logged |

I've worn Hi-Tecs, Bates, and Danners. Once I tried Danners, I never went back, and never had the need to try anything else. The only other boot I might consider are the new Welco Jungle Boots, and then only for situations where I know I'm going to flood my boots regularly (ie: regular stream crossings in the field). LR. FWIW, these are the coolest boots I own. I am constantly trading or returning worn out GSG-9's for new ones. They are light, have great traction, and are an awesome blend of running shoe and assault boot. I'm sure someone could do even better if they wanted, but for now these boots rock. They are not really field boots, but they sure are great for urban work and shipboarding. I have several pair and wear them more than any one type of boot. They are worth a lot because they perform. Word is that Bates has made a near identical copy for much less due out early this summer. I might have to convert...All the "heavy hitters" in CT use these treads to propel their operators on the majority of their missions. I often run in these things. They can be re-soled. If anyone is interested I'll post the info on resoling. Stay agile! Frogman IP: Logged |

Mr. Frogman, I'll have to try the Adidas GSG-9 then! If you have the re-soling instructions, I'll be glad to take a try. With re-soling they might have a chance against heavy Haix boots . The idea of actually being able run without the typical glumpsyness is a tempting one. Please post the instructions here, I'll note them somewhere, and I'll see when I'll be able to get my hands on GSG-9s and wear them out. But I do have one more question: When you take a longer step (or a normal for someone..?) and the weight goes on the shoe's heel, does it go in deep and bounce out causing a sharp shock in the knee? Some boots/shoes cause me problems when their heels are not cushioned like the soles and they keep popping. I have bad knees due to an accident so I don't want to put unnecessary stress on them while walking or running. BTW, It's also vice versa, and that's even worse than badly cushioned heels. You get what I mean, Sir?PS.Have you tried Haix boots? Cheers, ------------------ Chiburi Fac est ab hoste doceri 'It's allowed to learn from the enemy' IP: Logged |

I wear the GSG9s. Love 'em. I have Happy Feet now, and my feet are picky. A nifty cross between a running shoe and an assault boot. Not as cool on the foot as the nylon uppered and side vented Bates DuraShocks I used to wear, but much better support and traction. They are great in the rocky and uneven terrain here, and very good on concrete and asphalt.

How about the new GSG10? I think it is that same as the G9 except for a solid rubber coated toe area.IP: Logged |

Even though the GSG9 boot performs very well, I find that they result in damp feet if worn all day. They also wear very fast. This is no problem if you can DX them with out being charged. You guys might want to take a look at Oakleys web page. They have a military section that has a pic of a new boot that could replace the GSG9 in certain circles. Oakley has also supported the military with products for a long time.IP: Logged |

I wear Danner Ft. Lewis' most of the time. I also have a pair of Magnums that have been almost ditched completely. I've been looking around for new boots too, I need someting a little less heavy than the Ft. Lewis. I'd almost decided on the GSG-9's anyway. If I could get that re-soleing information, that would probably cinch the deal. BTW, Botach Tactical, www.botachtactical.com has some of the best prices I've seen on most things. Give that a try.------------------ Doc IP: Logged |

Has anyone seen/tried the new Oakley Assault boots? I emailed about availability but they said it will be a while(like August I think) . I am waiting on the new Bates and Oakleys before I order the Adidas. My partner has the Adidas, he loves them. Only problem for me is I wear shorts on duty most of the time so they wil not look right. stay safe all!------------------

I love the GSG9s but they do wear pretty quickly. Initial word from 2 sources says the Oakley assault boot is a winner with GSG9 like comfort and way better durability. Oakley says they will be way cheaper than the GSG9 too. Sounds like a winner. The Bates GSG9 knock-offs are way weak. Did I mention that they were lame? For a lightweight boot I'd go with the Addidas for now and the Oakley when it becomes available (based on the initial very positive reports). IP: Logged |

Danners! I love these boots. I have several pair and just bought another pair at bootbay.com. I have two pair of Ft. Lewis and two pair Arcadia. I have found they last a long time, can be re-soled, and work great in rural or urban settings. I've stood for hours on details in these and my feet have not complained yet. As for the Adidas.. They were great too. I did not know about the re-sole. That was my complaint, they wore out fast. Plus, they don't look so hot with my class a uniform, better with class b. Danners work all the way around for me!IP: Logged |

I have (had- i gave them to someone who actually needed them more) the Oakley boots, and they are a spectacular piece of kit. The R&D that went into them is superb, and the comparison between adidas and Oakley is night and day. I was fortunate to work for someone who gave me a pr of the 9's every 6 months. I needed them because while comfortable, had extremely poor durability. And waaay overpriced.------------------ S/F Pat Sends IP: Logged |
